Wisconsin DOT Law of the Month:  Move Over Law

Each month the Wisconsin Department of Transportation highlights a motor vehicle law.  This January, with the winter weather causing many accidents on the road, it is important to understand your responsibility as a driver.  The Move Over Law requires drivers to provide a “safety zone” for stopped law enforcement and other emergency vehicles.  This could be as simple as shifting lanes if possible or slowing down to move around the stopped vehicles.  Remember to follow this law, as a citation for violating this law can costs $263.50 and three (3) demerit points against your driver’s license.  For more information about the Move Over Law, check out:  http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/news/law/
